Stiftung Solarenergie - Our approach

Our approach

When the fight for bare survival has been fought and won in any region in Africa, truly effective development aid must have the following aims:
  • Reducing the dependency upon the annual harvest in order to avoid crop failure and prevent the region from becoming a disaster area again and
  • laying a sound foundation for education, health care and economic development.
An important basis for this development is a reliable source of affordable energy.

As forms of energy, oil, coal and gas cannot meet this challenge: From a technical point of view, they are unsuitable for the scattered settlements of Africa. In addition, the world’s supplies are waning and they would plunge a country into a new economic dependency upon energy imports.

A power supply must therefore be based on the sun if it is to make practical sense and be planned for the long term. Only in this way will it be possible to alleviate, on a long-term basis, the poverty due to a lack of energy and create the basis for a positive social and economic development.

Solar development aid also offers great advantages for Europe: Political and economic stability in Africa means fewer refugees, less famine as well as less armed conflict and terror.
