Bill Clinton visits Solar-Village Rema in Äthiopien

Former US President Bill Clinton, founder of the William J. Clinton Foundation, visited the solar projects of the Solar Energy Foundation in Rema / Ethiopia during his visit to Africa yesterday “I am impressed with the work being done in Rema Village through a Clinton Global Initiative commitment made by Stiftung Solarenergie and its partners that has brought light and hope to the lives of 5,500 people”, said the former president Clinton after his visit.

President Clinton spoke to many inhabitants of the village, visited one of the huts which had been provided with solar electricity and inspected an evening school which the villagers had organised themselves. In this way he could see the practical day-to-day benefits of solar energy for the rural population at first hand. President Clinton was clearly impressed by the work of the Solar Energy Foundation in Rema and the developments resulting from it. “This village serves as an exemplary model for what can be achieved through innovation and integrated approaches to address some of our world’s most pressing challenges, and it’s a testament that clean energy can drive economic progress in developing countries. I hope others will be inspired to make their own commitments around the world to improve lives and expand opportunity.”
