Training of Solar Technician
Solar technology and its proficient application are virtually unknown in Ethiopia. As a rule, diesel generators are still used in rural areas to generate electricity. This kind of technology is linked to considerable risks – in terms of the costs as well as ensuring the supply of diesel fuel. Solar energy, on the other hand, offers a reliable, long-term energy supply. In Ethiopia, however, there is a lack of trained people who are capable of installing and maintaining the solar systems. Whoever works in the solar sector is dependent upon insufficient one-time instruction. Our experience in the project area has shown that a professional training of solar technicians is essential. The Ethiopian technicians who work for the Solar Energy Foundation in Rema have also had to undergo an internal training programme first.
A Solar Technician needs training in technology and management.
